JadeWeserPort Wilhelmshaven now has a double track railway connection with Germany’s main grid
The enhancement from single to double track between Wilhelmshaven and Oldenburg has been officially opened by federal Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer. ”This new link,” said Ramsauer, ”will simultaneously enhance Wilhelmshaven’s competitiveness, intermodalism and Germany’s capability as a European gateway.” The project cost €210M, most of which was funded by Berlin. It was started in August 2011 and was completed on schedule.
As well as doubling, the line now beneifts form increased axle loads and speed limits, better signaling and more train length-plus loops to allow faster trains to pass. Ramsauer added that talks between his department and Deutsche Bahn regarding electrification of the line will get under way shortly.
