The recent level of diffusion of LNG in ports requires the implementation of an infrastructural
system that prioritises a corridor approach and the creation of a safe, secure and integrated
distribution network. The construction of this infrastructure requires strategic decisions about
the positioning of LNG bunkering, storage and supply facilities and about their sizing.
TDI RETE-GNL, project with a duration of 24 months (from 01.03.2018 to 29.02.2020) funded
by the program INTERREG Marittimo ITA-FRA – 2014-2020), has the aim of identifying
technological and productive solutions for LNG supply, bunkering and storage in the cross-
border areas ports, based on shared standard and operative procedures. The project identifies
the facilities and storage potential positioning within the main distribution network, taking
into account both positive and negative externalities as well as economic and financial
The strategic impact of the project comes from the cross- regional dimension, from the
positioning of the cross-regional area in the North of the Mediterranean Sea and from the
effects on the development of integrated expertise for a common infrastructural system.
The project is expected to produce 2 main outputs:
Definition of guidelines for the standardisation of technological options and operative
procedures for the supply and storage of LNG in the ports of the areas covered by the
Study of the joint action plan for the development of an integrated and shared approach
for the planning and development of port infrastructures for the supply and storage of
LNG in the areas covered by the program
For these purposes a number of insightful intermediate technical and scientific products have
been designed and planned.
The leading partner is Università degli Studi di Genova (UNIGE-CIELI; Lead researcher: Prof.
Giovanni Satta); project partners are Università di Pisa (UNIPI), Università di Cagliari -Dipartimento
di Scienze Economiche e Aziendali (CIREM), Office des Transports de la Corse (OTC), Chambre
de Commerce et d’Industrie du Var (CCIV).
