From September 14th to September 16th, “On the MoS Way Network Project” had the opportunity to explain the results achieved by the project (from the training provision, to the visits to the LNG sites, to the onthemosway.eu platform for the visibility of the actions) in the Project Conference titled “LNG Bunkering and Training Challenges”. The Conference took place in Glasgow at TIC, Technology and Innovation Centre, within the University of Strathclyde.
A very interested audience participated at the conference. The conference was an opportunity to face partners and stakeholders about LNG and power generation for vessels propulsion, by adding local EU competences and knowledge in line with EU policies concerning the maritime and logistic domains. Presentations from leading experts were discussed, and it was a great opportunity for the Academia & the Industry to discuss the future and the challenges of LNG fuelled ships.
The conference had a full programme during 3 days. After the welcome introduction by the organizers, Dr. Evangelos Boulougouris and Prof. Sandy Day from Strathclyde University, works developed with the contributions from:
Day 1:
Day 2:
Day 3:
The conference satisfied the objectives to create awareness and consciousness about the use of LNG fuel as a cheap and clean fuel for the shipping industry, reducing transport cost and meeting the tight emission limits. In addition, other objectives were achieved:
• The understanding and the appreciation of the pros and cons of LNG use as a marine fuel
• Developing a new culture in all the actors (onboard and offshore) to understand their role to the safe operation of LNG fuelled ships
• To bridge the different perspective that the crew onboard and at the port have, creating a common understanding
Each intervention had a very successful debate, involving interested participants like partners, industry stakeholders and students.
