Maersk said: “Due to the forecasted weather towards next weekend and congestion at the port of Felixstowe, we have arranged to divert the Maersk Kolkata (96W/1606) to London Gateway.”
Technical Paper: How the US West Coast handled congestion
Maersk previously announced that it will be cutting capacity along key routes in a bid to handle low freight rates and overcapacity.
In a recent video interview, Nils Anderson, CEO of Maersk, said that his company are looking to take advantage of opportunities to acquire other companies in 2016, adding that the Asia-Europe trade lane will see much better development than 2015.
DP World’s most recent venture includes ‘DP World Russia’, which is a joint-venture with the Russian Direct Investment Fund for investing in various types of infrastructure in Russia.
That DP World London Gateway has secured another Maersk routed ship is a big scalp for the new port terminal as it continues its drive to become one of – if not the – UK’s key maritime hub(s).
