Italy To Co-finance Electrification, LNG Use At Ports

Civitavecchia, Italy , January 18, 2019 – Italy’s government plans to co-finance the electrification and the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at ports, environment minister Sergio Costa said.

“The Ministry co-finances the construction of deposits and infrastructure for the storage of LNG and for its supply to ships,” Costa said in a Facebook post.

The minister today will be in Civitavecchia to present the guidelines of a strategy to make ports ‘greener’, through the energy transformation of a sector that traditionally has a strong environmental impact.

The guidelines were adopted by the Ministry of Environment in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and became operational with its publication in the Official Gazette on December 29, 2018.

The project will also help Italy to respond to two infringement procedures for failure to comply with the air quality standards, one of which referring to the emission of PM10 particles.
