The Caspian Sea port city of Anzali is set to be the location of new Ro-Ro terminal operations in Iran.
The local Fars News Agency has reported that Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarter (KACH) will build the new ramp facility which will require an investment of around $10 million and will take two years to finish.
“This project is a national one and is important to the country,” said Head of the Anzali Free Trade Zone Organization (AFTZO) Reza Masrour, saying that the port would be linked to the national rail network, and could become part of the new Silk Road transport corridor between China and Europe. The facilities will enable China and Russia to dock large ships at Anzali and transfer cargo via Iran.
Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanayee, in a visit to Derbent, Dagestan, Russia, located on the Caspian Sea, discussed the development of relations between Iran and Russia’s Dagestan. During the visit, the two sides discussed the issue of increasing cargo traffic through Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port. Also planned is a direct ferry service linking the two countries.
