Innovation and digitalization of the logistic chain: Fresh Food Corridors as flagship project

Monaco 5The Munich Transport Logistic Fair, that took place from 9th to 12th of May 2017, is one of the biggest International Exhibition for Logistics, Mobility, IT and Supply Chain Management. This year more than 60,000 visitors from 120 countries and 2,162 exhibitors from 62 countries attended the event.

Innovation and digital revolution were the most discussed topics, has declared Stefan Rummel, Managing Director of Messe München adding: “networking—digital and across all borders—was the dominant theme at transport logistic 2017. International exchange of goods, knowledge and ideas is an essential factor in prosperity and this means that logistics is and will continue to be a key factor in modern economies”.

To this regard, innovation and new technologies are important topics also addressed by Fresh Food Corridors.

The project foresees several innovative elements for the improvement of goods traffic flows in the agri-food sector, such as the implementation of an ICT Corridor Management Platform acting as single window device overcoming administrative and customs bottlenecks, the full involvement of the logistic operators from third countries in the Mediterranean region and the testing of a new technology based on an innovative system for power supply for reefer containers for the transportation of perishable goods. As a matter of fact, by using new technologies and shifting traffic from road to rail it will be possible to contribute for a more sustainable and efficient logistic chains.

In this framework, Fresh Food Corridors has been presented to the Transport and Logistics Fair where a dedicated stand has been set up in order to attract as much visitors as possible. During the Fair, the project outcomes and the CEF cofinancing aid have been disseminated among visitors, replying with a considerable interest on the issues addressed by the Action.

The fair was also an important opportunity for the FFC partners that have organized B2Bs meeting with the aim to promote new business opportunities on “reefer” transport improving sustainable intermodal freight services.
