The Cyprus Shipping Chamber, in cooperation with other stakeholders of the Cyprus maritime cluster, will participate in this year’s celebrations of the World Maritime Day, by organising a number of activities and events during a `Week of the Sea` entitled, ‘Shipping is not only about ships’, from 23 September to 1 October, with the overall aim to promote shipping and raise public awareness.
World Maritime Day, established by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), is celebrated every year during the last week of September. Its aim is to promote the importance of shipping, maritime safety and the protection of the marine environment.
The Shipping Chamber has prepared a special programme with various activities and events in which stakeholders from the entire Cyprus shipping industry, governmental departments, professional associations and the Media, will be invited to attend.
As part of these events and activities, the Chamber will be organising a “Maritime Exhibition” with various maritime/shipping related exhibits and artefacts. The Maritime Exhibition will be held at the Exhibition Centre of the Cyprus Ports Authority, at Limassol’s Old Port area and it will be open to the general public.
Marking the beginning of the celebrations, the Exhibition has been placed under the auspices of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, who will also be making the official opening on 23 September.
