Sustainable Traffic Machines II – The green link between Scandinavia and Continental Europe

The project TEN-T Priority Project 21 (Motorways of the Sea) covers the necessary technical, supply and marketing measures in preparation of the upcoming environmental requirements, in particular meeting the SECA (Sulphur Emission Control Areas) regulations of IMO (International Maritime Organisation), as well as EU’s stricter sulphur limits for marine fuels, used by ships operating in the Baltic Sea, as from January 2015. The project will reduce bunker consumption through the installation of state-ofthe-art technology hybrid propulsion on (the remaining) two out of four RoPax vessels ensuring the transport link between Rødby and Puttgarden. The project will be implemented and managed by Scandlines Deutschland GmbH and Scandlines Danmark ApS, acting as maritime and port/terminal operators.
