Great success for the “LNG” EVENT @ SEA FUTURE 2016, titled “LNG and the maritime environmental challenges: from policy issues to real life sustainable projects” and held at the Naval Base of La Spezia,on the last 27th May.
The seminar was followed by a large platform of representatives of industry, navies and the logistics community. Many relevant speakers attended the event.
The President of La Spezia Port Authority, Mr. Lorenzo Forcieri, illustrated the past and the future European projects in which the port is involved planning its new LNG facilities. In particular, Poseidon Med project has recently developed a study about a full LNG logistics chain between La Spezia and the inland terminal of Melzo (Milan), while Gainn4Mos and Gainn4Core projects will develop some pilot project for LNG facilities in port. The former Principal Administrator of the DG MOVE, Capt. José Anselmo, opened the international session speaking about the future priorities for a better connection between the Motorways of the Sea and the TEN-T corridors. In a parallel way, Mr. Emilio Minghetti of MISE, Italian Ministry for the Economic Development, illustrated the national strategy about the implementation of LNG in the next decades.
After the key speeches, three sessions were dedicated to LNG future perspective on the logistics chain, seen from different point of views: the international context, the Italian situation, with a specific focus on terrestrial transport, and the opportunities offered by the cluster of La Spezia.
In the first session, Mr. Porcellacchia, Vice President of Carnival Corporation & plc, spoke about the new LNG cruises’ fleet, and Mr. Picco, director at Circle, explained the role of www.onthemosway.eu supporting the environmental challenges in the development of innovative maritime and transport operations along the Motorways of the Sea.
In the second session introduced by Mr. Testi (SOSLOG association), Mr. Pellegrinelli (Iveco) showed the constant growth of the fleet of LNG-powered trucks on the Italian and European roads. Supporting this aspect, Mr. Cingolani (LC3 Company), Mr. Baldelli (Maganetti Group) and Mr. Mantelli (Conad supermarkets) explained the investments of their companies towards a more environmentally friendly trucks’ fleet.
In the third session, the cluster of La Spezia was represented by Capt. Mezzani (Coast Guard), Mr. Grassini (GNL Italia – Panigaglia regasification plant), Capt. Bignone (Italian Navy), Mr. Arena and Mr. Da Chà (Fincantieri Group). From different points of view, they explained the recent development of LNG technologies in the maritime transport and related issues for the operations in port. Everybody fostered future investments on LNG-powered ship fleet and demonstrated the good qualities of this type of vessels.
Ms. Federica Montaresi (La Spezia Port Authority) closed the seminar, underlining the strong know-how on LNG themes, the potentialities and the opportunities of La Spezia emerged during the event.
