ATLANTICA OPTIMOS

This project, part of TEN-T Priority Project 21 (Motorways of the Sea), covers the link between Nantes St-Nazaire (France) and Vigo (Spain), mainly dedicated to unaccompanied road transport. It aims at upgrading the existing maritime link between the two ports into reliable and frequent Motorways of the Sea open to modal shift traffic. This new integrated service will start operating in 2014 with three rotations per week. The plan is to move into a fourth rotation by July 2016 when occupancy ratios are satisfactory. The project will develop the infrastructure capacity and upgrade the interface between terminals and the hinterland connections. A new Ro-Ro berth at the Port of Nantes Saint-Nazaire’s Montoir-de-Bretagne Ro-Ro terminal will be constructed and a floating ramp will be installed at the Port of Vigo to replace the current fixed ramp for an improved embarkation/disembarkation process
